Josh the Pirate

we were eating breakfast and noticed some clucking from upstairs....these are stealthy chickens =) and i found an egg up there! she must have found a nice warm spot to lay her "brood" of one. they really are such sweet animals...and so soft to hug and snuggle...before church this morning, josh cut and stacked a lot of firewood....then church...
we are really really loving being a part of redeemer in athens. we have enjoyed the university church we've attended for about 3 years...but strangely we have never felt utterly at home there....we love the folks and the design of the service and church...very low key...very simple...wonderful! but there is something which makes us feel at home at redeemer...anyway...the Lord works in such neat ways...we are so grateful for our friends at UC and that wouldn't have happened without time there...but we are happy to be at redeemer now.

Family Photo

i like this one...wish esme were grinning her cute smile and we might have had a Christmas photo!
i noticed a couple days ago that esme has an underbite! i am about to google it for some info...i mean, what does one do about an underbite? hhmmm....
i sooo need to go on a sugar fast again....i am in a sleep needing so sugar eating instead phase. but i slept more last night that i have in a while...so maybe i won't "need" as much sugar. wish that were true. =)
still fighting this cold. grace, josh's mom, gave me some vitamin powder which amazingly seems to ward off stuff....i feel like it is my sword, i keep drinking it and hoping to win.

Skating!

at one point we thought jack HAD to be tired, so we decided to veer off the rink and get something to drink. well, he started crying....and we thought he was hurt or something. well, tearfully he explained that he didn't want to stop skating! he looooved it....so fun. josh and toted him between us and esme was mesmerized by the lights and disco ball. i snapped a fun photo of margaret skating but spent most of the time clutching children to snap too many...we will definitely have to do this again...i was surprised at how much fun it was! i want to get josh on skates too...from what i hear he was quite amazing on ice skates in "his day"....so i would love to see him do all those turny backwards moves...i was always so jealous of those kids in my skating days =)

Rainy Day

i am fighting a cold with all i'm worth...the kids have had it and everyone around me has had it....and i can feel my body wanting to be part of that "fun"....so i am about to go to sleep and ward it off. anywho...nice quiet day...we met josh at chickfila...jack LOVES to play there and now so does esme...came home and josh read "pillars of the earth" which many folks have told him is excellent...jack crawled in his lap and they shared popcorn....we found 2 puppies on our back porch snuggling with cash and harry....well, i thought they were these poor lost puppies...i called the neighbor and he said he'd take them...so i rounded them up and drove them over....and came to find out...they lived there! for the past year and a half...and are named "lucifer and satan...bc they fight and get into so much trouble." so funny, here i thought they were poor little suckling on their mamma puppies =)
ok off to bed

NO Flashlight to be found

so we used a ball of christmas lights at the end of an extension cord to check the burgers for done-ness....but they weren't ready when we brought them in so we ended up having scrambled burgers instead....kelly pressed them into the buns in the shape of a burger =)

Josh;'s Bday party

we had a few folks over tonight for josh's 27th bday...it was fun! we grilled out and ate apple pie...i made 12 little ones with the kids this morning...intended to make 27....but only made it to 12 =)
sandra and dad gave us a bushel of apples....which are DELICIOUS....so the pies were quite tasty. not sure what we are going to do tomorrow...so glad josh has these 3 day weekends....really gives him a chance to be with family and rest and then get ready to go to work again...he really loves his job....

Jack's Bday Presents

josh and his dad both have october birthdays...so i went to the thrift shop yesterday and found some frames...and put some of jack's fingerpaintings in them! aren't they neat o! i think josh will get the purple one as he likes the color a lot...and tom will get the multicolored one. i just ordered some photos of jack actually doing the painting and i think i'll glue it to the back of the frame. yippe!!
also, while at the thrift shop i found some weights!!! i have been looking for them everywhere...so i can make a cheese press!!! to come shortly. =)

Pesto, Cute Esme and Apples

basil is the easiest herb to grow i think. i just threw out seeds and i have a small hedge. which keeps producing! we made more pesto today...and to keep esme busy whilst we blended, i gave her a container of pears and some "tools" and she was quite contented. dad and sandra gave us a bushel of apples...which are TASTY...which is a good thing bc jack keeps eating a bit here and a bit there...and then i find them! and i eat the rest...needless to say, i turned my head this morning and now i have quite a few apples to eat today =) i might make a pie. or 2 =)

My Buddie and I Cobbing

i have been thinking about writing a book....
about jack and i cobbing the house...it has been such a neat experience..still is!
i feel like he has learned so much...about agility and hand-eye coordination (nailing etc) and just had such fun playing in the mud....and he knows how to cob!!! he'll say "time for hay" or "it's ready mommy!"...so cute. i really really love this time each day with him one-on-one...how could we ever leave here!

A Visit to Dad and Sandra's House

sandra's mom and aunt are visiting them for a long weekend and sandra asked us up for lunch today...it was really lovely. the weather is so very windy and fall-esque! and the lake they live on (acworth) has been drained so the earth below it is cracked and wonderful. matt, jack, esme and i went for a walk and collected shells...and i got stuck in the mud right after saying "hey, here's a dry spot to cross the creek!" jack had a blast taking a walk with grandpops to the playground and playing with matt...when we got home, he announced "i don't want to go home! i want pops and uncle matt!" so sweet. we are home now....josh went to lincolnton with adam to help him lay out a deck for adam's parents...he should be home soon...
