more apricots and a little story writing
we made a thrift shop run today and both the kids found an article of clothing they really wanted...esme a pink costume and jack a hunting shirt with a hunting dog on the front...
i usually get them to do an extra chore to work off things they want like that...but i had a brilliant idea today for them to write me a story for it!
well, i thought it was smart anyway =)
jack has begun to write more since his time with sigourney at veritas....something about the classroom i think was good to spur him on...
anywho....he wrote about a cat wanting milk =)

sketching and painting apricots
i saw the loveliest apricots at the grocery today...
so i popped 2 in the cart and decided we should draw and eat them up =)
i realized the kids probably had never seen one that wasn't dried...
jack enjoyed his very much but esme stabbed hers with the paintbrush and then painted with the juice a bit...hmmmm....different sides of the brain maybe?
anywho..i ate hers =) stab wounds and all.

soaking her foot and doing some math...
esme stepped on a nail yesterday...it went clear through her flimsy flipflop of course and a good ways in her foot...
after calling the doc and finding her tetnus to be current...
i have been soaking it in salt water and telling her wwII stories of bombers recovering from terrible wounds who crashed into the sea due to the salt water...
titus has had a ball playing in the water while she soaks so to save the floor we came up with sitting on the table and soaking...MUCH to esme's delight.
i placed numbers on the floor this morning and gave jack a block to role with either 'plus' or 'minus' on the sides....he either added the numbers or subtracted them...
i am doing my best to incorporate some math and reading into our days of summer fun...not sure how much is actually profitable....but it is mostly fun =)

blueberries and tea!!!
today we woke up and headed to the blueberry patch with my friend jenny and her kids...
titus eating them over my shoulder in the backpack...the kids running here and there between the bushes...
they came back to our house for 'tea'...something esme has been very much into since having tea with her grammy in summerville =)
we made biscuits and served strawberries and cream, baby yogurt freeze dried pellets (that is what i call them....they taste like astronaut icecream to me and my big kids love them...titus isn't so interested)
and then a cake esme made yesterday...the chocolate chip pie one....and some turkey jerky...
with chickory coffee and pgtips tea...what a concoction!!! ha!
then the kids played and played...ezra carded some wool...they caught frogs and stick fought...quite a perfect summer's day =)
i am so very thankful for jenny...what a dear friend...

monday monday.....
during the summer monday has such a different connotation.....it is just as deliciously slow as any other day of the week....excepting that it is trash day which thankfully josh is great and remembering...
this morning we had our coffee (chickory and barley root) and played skidding up the driveway a bit before heading to 'the russians garden'...i sortof wish she would call her organic farm by that name bc that is what we call it around the house =) ...with no ill intent that is just what comes to mind...
natalya has a THICK russian accent....arrived here not many years ago....she gardens with his american husband and they sell their produce....and it is SO good and SO cheap...cheap in the sense i always feel a like i took something i shoudln't have so end up buying all sorts of her canned goods (which are more fairly priced on her behalf)...and are DELICIOUS so this isn't charity on my part...everything is fresh and delicious and quite interesting....for example today, we bought green pecan relish, borshct, red pepper ginger sauce, blackberry preserves, pickles...to name a few!
and the veggies! 2 large bunches of swiss chard, 1 bunch of green onions, 5 bunches of carrots, 3 heads of garlic, 1 bunch of cilantro, 1 bunch of dill all for $9!!!!!! and the bunches are HUGE!!!! if you live anywhere near waverly hall, you really should make the trip...totally worth it
when we arrived home, we stopped by the land to feed daddy and and guys working...and then jack stayed while esme and i came home and made soup, and cookies (she wanted to take some to the neighbors...so cute) and a little cake, lots of pesto and then put up the rest of the veggies....
there is something quite spectacular about vegetables...truly! they make you feel good to handle and eat and even look at...so pretty.
esme escaped the day with a small slice from a blade on her finger and an egg on her head after dancing for daddy and twirling and falling into the sidetable in her long dress...=( but they are all asleeping soundly now...such a sweet sweet day....i am so blessed sometimes i cannot find the words...the Lord is good to me by making me so very rich in my family...i want for nothing.
