catching up!

so sorry all these pictures are out of order!!!
we just returned today from a night at st George island...
and yes I did say "a" night!
ha!
the kids and I drove down yesterday....got there by lunch and dove straight into the water...me in my regular clothes...the kids changing as they ran down the sandy pathway to the water.  we swam for about 2 hours...then set up our camp....and returned to the water for another 4 hours....
when we came back to eat our little supper, we found a party going on! 3 squirrels and a murder of crows were carefully tossing back our food! they ate half a loaf of bread (left the ends...they ate the center bits), peanuts and granola bars....and who knows what else they scampered away with! thieves!!!
so we cooked bacon and chicken sausages on the campfire (I sweated the entire time...it is SUMMER and I made a campfire???) I then caught the grease on fire so we had a scorcher.  we ate that with nutella and our remaining pieces of bread....
we took showers at the campsite and climbed into the popup to read a chapter or 2 of the swiss family robinson (which I am not liking nearly as much as I had surmised I would...first of all they KILL EVERYTHING....a porcupine, a kangaroo, 50 wild birds, a flamingo, they bludgeoned a penguin!! and harpooned a sea turtle!! I mean COME ON, get with the picture...who does that???)
anywho...we then settled down for a long winter's night.
except it wasn't winter...wait a minute....it is SUMMER TIME!!!!
we laid there ...and it was light outside and hot...and then still light still hot...um...still light still hot...
when in the world does the sun actually go down!!!???
titus was happy as a clam but morphed into a puppy who turns round and round making his bed only go get up and do it over again....he played with my hair, sang little songs...all very cute but all very 'not sleeping' until far past midnight...jack and esme drank half the ocean and so in turn asked for water throughout the night...we were all just sort of hanging out...all night. did I mention it was hot?
anywho...so we got up around 6 and ate breakfast (what the squirrels had left for us) and headed to the beach...we swam and played for another 3 hours at least until our tummies rumbled for icecream =)
I knew 1 night sans sleep is kinda fun (in a lockin sort of fun way) but 2 nights is miserable (in a 'I will never camp again in my life' sort of way) so we showered and packed up...headed 4 miles down the road for icecream....and sat and enjoyed the luxury of coldness.
I let the kids run to the beach and get tossed around by the waves for another hour or so and we headed home!
it was super...
truly a super little trip...I have memories of them playing and screaming with delight at the waves I will never forget. and snuggling and camping ...all of it even the heat was worth it.
I love they are now snug in their beds and I will be snug in mine...and that the air is turned down to a number I will not admit.
=)
