with my new dehydrator humming in the background, i have sat this evening and watched persuasion....the bristish masterpiece theatre version....
some dear and wonderful soul wanted to anonymously gift us for having the 5k here...though i am certain my dear marybeth outworked both josh and i hands down. without knowing i was ordering a gift for myself, i exclaimed a deep desire for an excalibur dehydrator, the lion of the water extracting machines. and to my absolute delight and to esme's mistified looks, it arrived today in a rather large box.
though it takes up quite literally 1/8 of our kitchen, i couldn't be more pleased. only in the waning hours of the day, i have drying, tomatoes, tomato puree, raw chocolate cookies, banana/peanutbutter leather, apple/pear/banana leather cookies and flax crackers. i feel the excalibur and i will become fast friends...potentially even usurping the cuisinart as my kitchen bff.
i found 2 bottles of almost finished red wine in the frig and poured them into a mason jar....and have been eating almost dehydrated cookies with orange slices and feeling very very content.
there is a scene in the movie on the coast of england...and everything about it made me happy. the empire waisted dresses blowing in the wind (i could live in those if it were "proper" for our time...cobbing might be hard, but i could have a dress up dress and a cobbing empire dress =)), their bonnets with peeping curls, talk of poetry, the rocky seaside, and even the music they chose to accompany the scene...i was sure it was a chopin piece in my piano hayday i used to play. i ran and dug out my old music book and found it...my pencil scratches that i recognize still on the pages but my physical memory of what they mean or how to play them anylonger is zilch.
maybe one day i will return to that foggy memory of playing...i'd like that very much. but for now, i will turn on these great old movies...and enjoy listening to someone else tickle the keys and make such music.
ahhh, and now to bed...
good night!
