sight word video

hmmm....first of these a little upsidedown...
anywho...
grace gave me this video ages ago....about sight words
and i popped it in today and it really worked for a relaxing late afternoon somethign to do that isn't just watch a show...
the video is SUPER simple...that is the idea i think...
they have chosen about 10 words and in a 30 minute segment, they repeat those words over and over and show them on screen over and over....something animated but often just the word...
jack would write each one down after its little moment on screen....
and then we went over them...

reading is here and there for jack...
he seems honestly a little scared of it...as he is of jumping off a diving board for the first time...
he is pretty sure he can do it but until he tries it he is just reticent and almost upset about doing it...

we try and do a little each day...bob books, sounding out letters/words, writing letters to people and sounding out as we go...but i really don't push it bc i can tell he isn't sure of it at all yet...and that is so fine!
but this was another way to "play" and go over some good sight words...
i forgot the actual name of them dvds...i think just sight words maybe?

thing 1 and thing 2

if you like dr suess (sorry liana =)) you will know to whom i reference =)
my munchkins often make me think of thing 1 and thing 2....
let them out of a big shiny box and out they run ready to do mischief at lightning speed =)
while talking on the phone for a MOMENT (i really don't talk during the day much except to make plans or check in with josh...i WANT to but it just doesn't leave a happy trail behind it for me to chatter away...bc once i start i love a good chat!)
anywho!
i hear jack yell from the kitchen, "mamma, what else goes in a cake?"
so i derive that some cooking has already begun...
and then i hear "hey ez, get me an egg too"

here's the thing, the kids don't ever get food on their own...they just never have...i dont' think i conciously decided i would be the one to always give them permission...they just are that way...and i like it...
they have recently started to get water on their own but other than that, they ask for whatever they want...
"mamma, may i have this bannana?"
"mamma, can we eat all the popsicles in the fridge?"
something along those lines...

but for some reason "baking" it an open playing field...
almost as if they are being so helpful so why in the world would they have to ask to do so????
i walked into the kitchen and found quite a mess...
a few bowls with concoctions in them....flour on the floor, all over their paws, egg shells here and there....
and looks of glee on their faces.
the story broke down when i realized they'd used honey for sweetner....
that evoked a conversation about those less fortunate and not wasting supplies...
but i did feel we needed to go with their cooking flow...so we made a chocolate ginger bread together...
which we ate with milk on the floor amongst our mess before put the house back together again...

i only wish i had the cat in the hat's machine with multiple arms all knowing the precise spots to clean and fix things up again =)

push ups...

the kids like to play on daddy's back whilst he does his pushups...
you couldn't put a piece of paper on my back and expect me to still crank out a few...
we call it part of daddy's firefighter training =)

the kids then do their own strength training...with ez riding on jack's back =)

this and that...

yay!!!!
the blogger is letting me in today!
so i just caught up with about 8 posts =) from this week

these pics are of a doorstop...i bought 2 pillows for 2 dollars from the thrift...hand cross stiched pillows!
i felt a little badly cutting them up...
but i did...and then hot glued them to a couple bricks...
then i sewed around a patch of burlap and glued it to the bottom...
i intended on sewing it all together but the glue seems to gel the materials together so well....that i figured i'd just go the easier route!

and then we have the kiddos playing in the pond....not the cleanest place i can imagine playing...and not the snake-less place either but it was hot and o the fun that was had making mud pies =)

and the jenny and ezra and josiah at the NEW chickfila!!!
they just opened one about 10 minutes away...dangerous for us =)

what is super fun though is that behind it is a HUGE "field" where they have cleared the land and left mounds of dirt here and there...it is now covered with grass..
so the kids andi took our bikes the other day and rode down those hills! ran over to chickfila for some snacks and then biked some more...it was nice!

today we skipped church,,,the kids aren't 100% so we decided to stay "home" so as not to pass it on...
we ended up taking our bikes to the river walk and biking up and down the alabama/georgia line...
i took pics with josh's camera....but the computer likes his camera even less than mine so we'll see about getting some on here...but unlikely for now...

o!
i just read my friend kelly's post in her blog about marriage...peripety...see it over there to the right?
sooo insightful, so good...i just ordered the book for josh and i!
i want to invest in my relationship with Jesus...with Josh and my kids....
before i do anything else...
bc those things are priority that help other stuff fall into place...

i remember someone told me a long time ago that one of the best things i could do for my children was to love my husband and work on my marriage...
that which we love so much is what we invest in...put work and time into...and i do
i do love him so much.

food...

i have been LOVING beckie's copies of maryjane'sfarm...by far it is my new favoritest magazine...
there are recipes in it that are just perfect...
these muffins are yummy...
savory pesto muffins =)

we have been making a lot of pesto (trying to keep basil and parsley and cilantro cut so it doesn't bolt)
so new ways to use it always good...

5 tb butter
1 1/4 cup sharp cheddar
3/4 cup feta
1/2 cup walnuts
3/4 cup pesto
1 egg
1 1/4 cup buttermilk (didn't have so one time used regular milk with 2 ts vinegar another time used sour cream)
1/2 ts lemon juice (didn't have so used lime juice)
2 1/4 cups flour
2 1/2 ts baking powder
3/4 ts salt

mix put in cups and bake 375 degrees for 12 minutes for so...until golden on top

and then green shakes...ahhhhhh, how i love them
i really think it is a mixture of knowing how good they are for me and then drinking so much of them..that i can't tell anymore if they are even palatible ...bc my love of goodness is so great...for all i know they might be awful! =)
but lately, i've been rooting rosemary which means i have to take off all the bottom "leaves" so i have been throwing them in my shakes in the morning....and i have grown to really really like the flavor...

this one has turnips greens, swiss chard (almost the last in the garden it is getting too hot!), rosemary, vit c packet, banana and some frozen strawberries....

the kids usually drink a good 5 sips or so with their breakfast....
(tonight i actually made one for them to get lots of veggies in their tummies...i picked some squash and carrots and threw them in with some basil and turnip greens...with strawberries and vit c packets....and raisins and walnuts to make it sweet and fuller...i know it sounds pretty rough ...but they drank almost their whole glass! i think the key is giving it to them when they are HUNGRY =) like either first thing or after playing playing outside for a long time =)

ok..moving on =)
this is a chocolate dessert yummy thing...that probably only i will eat =)
the chocolate is cocoa powder and coconut oil...and the filling is blended bee pollen, almonds, currants, flax oil, honey, coconut, peppermint extract and a pinch of cayenne pepper!
i know i know...a little crazy =)
i read megan telpners blog...i dont' know where i found her..i think during my raw diet season..anywho...i like her and i like her recipes a lot...this one is a morphing of one of hers...here's her blog if you are interested =)
http://makingloveinthekitchen.blogspot.com
hmm...that might not be the right address...you'll see it to the side anyway =)

it won't be long i think~

esme is ITCHING to start learning the violin...and just like jack we keep saying "when you are 4!"
she isn't allowed to touch jack's violin and very rarely mine (not that it is expensive but i just want there to be this separation for them between toys and instruments...not that i don't want them to play with them...but just that they'd respect them and really take care of them...)
anywho...
jack and i decided that esme could have a go on his...which is too big for her....but she did pretty well...
jack was explaining this and that...
it was a sweet moment...
