Moving Towards Raw

i think i am apprehensive to start 30 days of raw food bc i don't think i'll be able to hack it...
but each day we add something or experiment and it is such fun and delicious i am beginning to think it really won't be hard at all!
for breakfast, i juice carrots, collards, cilantro, ginger, apples and oranges...the whole family drinks up...well...jack and esme have not taken to the green addition very well...but i'll keep trying.
and then i made pancakes with mulberries and sprouted amaranth on top...with liana's strawberry chamomile syrup....absolutely delicious!
well, i thought so and the kids gobbled it up!
when i juice stuff there is always a bunch of carrot pulp left over....which i've just added to our compost...but i found a mock carrot cake raw recipe...which is so good!
both esme and jack loved it and kept asking for more
here's the recipe:
3 cups carrot pulp
1 cup almonds or pecans
2 tb maple syrup
1/4 ts salt
1 cup dates
1 ts cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
pinch nutmeg and cloves
blend in food processor, smush into pan and chill

Cob

Check out the "muddy boot" to see some cob updates....i put in a few windows today....so fun to see it coming slowly together! jack hasn't been into cob as of late, probably bc there are some good dirt piles and lots of toy trucks...so we have been playing trucks lately...but since they are both sleeping in the afternoon at the same time (hallelujah chorus is playing here...can you hear it?) i have some alone time to think and work...it has been good...theraputic.

Making Almond Milk

so on this quest to finding interesting raw not meaty products to eat...
i came across this site which explains how to make nut milks...which o my goodness is the easiest thing ever!
i soaked almonds overnight (you can use any nut or seed)
then added 2x the amount of water as soaked nuts to the cuisine art (should have been a blender but i broke ours) and then blended for a couple minutes...the poured into the butter muslin (fine cheesecloth) and squeezed....
and voila...milk!
i added a little honey and vanilla and it is so good!
the pulp i think i can use in bread...
pretty cool

Picking Mulberries

i took esme for her shots today...she had 8 different vaccines in 5 shots ...!!!
bless her heart!!!
she SCREAMED of course but then was fine...
so we went to kelley's house to pick mulberries and baking cherries...they are SO good...
we gobbled more than we brought home =)
i keep thinking i'll make some mulberry jam but we eat them too quickly!

Crazy

so, josh was driving home last night from wolfskin...which crosses a little creek.
the road is curvy so if you meet someone even going UNDER the speed limit, both parties are surprised and usually swerve a bit.
well, josh and a 4wheeler (it's illegal actually for them to be on the road) met up and both swerved a bit...and were fine.
the guy on the 4wheeler (with his 3 teenage kids) stopped and waved at josh to stop...so he did.
THEN THE GUY REACHED THROUGH THE WINDOW AND GRABBED JOSH BY THE NECK!
and started throwing punches!
cussing him and telling him to slow down.
thankfully, josh threw it in gear and drove off, called the police and came home.
the police searched for the guy but didnt' find him...

i was dumbfounded when josh told me...
i mean, are you kidding me???
and i was also SOOOOO grateful that josh always knows how to keep his cool...i have no doubt he could have taken care of the situation right there but instead he drove away...

Sprouting Seeds...

oo sorry didn't realize this one would be on its side...
this book, God's Way to ultimate health.... i bought when my mum was so sick...and now that i actually read it (i gleened a few bold printed things for my mum and then set off to do other things...) i dearly wish i had gone whole hog with her and followed it...
i have been debating the last couple days if i could actually do this diet...without immediate motivation (ie..diagnosis of cancer for ex) just to do it as a preventative thing....as a way to live as healthily as possible NOW...to even thwart a possible scary diagnosis one day..
i hear all the time about big decisions, people say "it is a small price to pay for....."
and i kept thinking that today...
"it is a small price to pay to eat extravagantly healthily now so i can hopefully be fit for a LONG time"
but when i really really think about it...it is BIG price to pay...
to eat almost all raw food (85%) to give up all dairy, meat, sugar, salt....eggs!
for those of you who know me well or even a little! you know i LOVE food...i love to talk about it, share recipes and most of all EAT it!
but then i think of being with my kids for years and years...
i think of seeing my grandchildren...something my mum never got to do...
i think of growing old with josh...
and i think...what wouldn't i do?

anyway...so i am still contemplating...
and along that path, i am experimenting with different foods....
sprouting grains and beans and nuts today...
well, i started yesterday and the amaranth is sprouted and tastes yummy!
you can't really see it in the photo but you can tell it now fills up the whole jar
more on the "how" in a bit, jack and i are going to read a bit!

Thursday

well, now that i CAN post photos, i don't have any to post! ha!
they are on the camera, the batteries just went dead and and i can't find hte charger...such is life! =)
a good day...i have been reading a lot about raw foods ...amazing the timing...bc i decided this would be our first 30 day challenge....i have been intrigued with eating raw foods since my mum was sick...i read a lot back then of how wonderful this type of eating is for a body...and little griffin is coming home from the hospital soon and mollie wants to know about this same diet...the hallelujah diet it is called....
I started to sprout some almonds, sesemee seeds, and amaranth seeds....when seeds are sprouted their nutritional value goes up exponentially...or so i've read.
we had lentil and tomato (cooked) with curry tortilla wraps for dinner with bulgar (soaked not cooked) mixed for handfuls of cilantro, mint and parsley from the garden...on lettuce from the garden too o, and peas! i am experimenting with some raw things....
the kids and i made a tarp pond again at the bottom of the front stairs and "swam"....
ok...i am rambling i can tell...tired tired tired.
night night!
