July 4th at Ben Whetstone's House

ben has a neat place in high shoals right on the river...we had a great evening...jack was FULL of excitement and new faces...it takes him a bit to warm up, but when he does, he is just delighted by everyone and everything.

i have had this recent paranoia that my kids won't be safe. not safe near cars, not safe near water, not safe in crowds....as a parent, i am now much more aware of the stories we all hear of terrible accidents concerning children and they seem to embed themselves in my mind like stiches in a quilt. i find myself praying for their safety, bargaining with God that i will give up anything ...just keep them safe. i don't have to wonder about the scriptural basis in these thoughts...bc i can think of much to the opposite....that perfect love casts out fear...that safety of our bodies really isn't promised anywhere...that abraham was asked to give up his son....that nothing can harm our souls in Christ....
so i find strength in re-centering myself in these things....but also an awareness that i don't know what will happen to my kids...what might be asked of us as parents to endure...
i trust that Christ is loving and i pray for a fullness each day so that no matter what, i won't regret a moment spent in this life....how i love my children...and how much more does our Father love us....in the End, all is made right....whatever course this takes...all will be redeemed...but i can't help pleading for safe passage through this life for my precious jack and esme.

ooo, that was a bit of a ramble.
we had a great time...so good to be with friends...when we left josh turned to me and said "you know, jack is my best buddy" i love that. when he was a tot and struggled so much with colic, i wondered if josh would ever warm up to him! ha! now he can't get enough....
