Hello!

now that i can blog everyday again, i am so out of habit! alas, somehow i erased jack's stitches picture..i'll get another tomorrow =) he has been a champ though... and stitches are wonderful...for anyone wondering if you should or shouldn't get a cut stitched on your child... hope the doc decides to get out the needle and thread bc after it is tightly sewn up, it just barely hurts anymore! to wash it, to play with it... easy! but a cut that keeps oozing or keeps coming apart and hurting all over again...noooooo thank you jack gets stitches out on the 4th of may but i think he'll be sad to see them go =) here is a photo of the garden center...the kids making castles from boxes...the bunny at the farmhouse...and esme's boots with geranium deadheads to decorate =) we've had a fire going all day...and i just saw a heron fly over the lake... and i'm dehyrdrating some strawberries and making yogurt this evening... an all around lovely lovely day josh's parents are coming tomorrow! and i'm heading off to see marybeth for a couple days and hug her new baby! so i'll be back in blog world sat night!

waste not want not

esme loves apples....and sometimes she eats all of it... but often, most often, she eats some percentage and then is off to some other adventure. i collect them in a ziplock in the frig and then make something at the end of each week... this sunday i made an apple pie... but fell asleep on the couch and it burned to a crisp but quite shockingly, the 3 other household members completely polished it off! they must have scraped off the blackened outside and found treasure beneath =)

bluebells

i think these are bluebells... if they aren't i am going to pretend they are =) on march 22nd..it had been 9 years since my mum died of cancer... she was 60 years old which gets younger and younger to me. my mum used to play in the woods behind her english country home on a carpet of bluebells... even as children my brother and i were well versed in the magic of a multitude of bluebells... her stories of playing with fairies as a child =) and her buddies romping through the blue woods... after she died, my brother, my dad and i returned to those woods and scattered her ashes... it was the first time i can remember actually going to those woods...though we'd been to england many times and we went when the bluebells were blooming (in england that is in may) so when march arrived and the bluebells popped out their heads in our front yard, i was filled with gratitude... i felt like my mum was here...sharing in this new place with us... the kids have picked bunches of them and they are swimming in mugs and glasses around the house... such a gift...

This is Julie!

julie is wonderful! she is just a delight...the kids love her and so do josh and i ... she has taken care of jack and esme while we went to a member's class at church... and they have just asked all throughout the week when sunday comes again =) she and her boyfriend justin are just neat people...we hope to get to know better!

josh and jack cutting some slivers for me in the blueberry patch

i used to make these cake stand things.....from slices of wood...for get togethers ...it was a fun way to put out food on slices of tree =) i have no idea how well they will do as plant holders but we'll see.... the boys were great to cut some wood for me... and the blueberry patch (belonging to jenny's family) is just beautiful... there are SO many bushes and they have just planted even more! and other types of fruit... what a garden of eden! i made the stands and forgot to photo them before putting them at the garden center... i'll snag a couple photos on the morrow

today

so, we had a lovely morning/afternoon...
played in the garden, practised violin, made stuff, took a walk..
made our own lemonade and flag and terrariums...
and it was about 4 and i plopped down on teh couch...jack went out to cut some wood with a small hand saw for esme's crutches (they were playing doctor)
when i heard jack yell...and he very rarely yells/screams for any other reason than being really hurt
he had cut his finger pretty badly with the saw...
i unclenched his hand enough to see he needed stitches...
jumped in the truck with the kids and found directions en route to an emergency care place...
5 stitches!!!
and he was so brave!
he winced when they put in the 10 pokes of lidocane...and tears would roll down his face but he didn't make many sounds accept to answer their questions...
(of course he was screaming all the way there until i gave him gum =))
in bed now and all is well

betsy ross and jack

instead of cutting out 50 stars, we just wrote 1-50 on pieces of paper and glued them down...
i dotted out the numbers for jack and he traced them....

jack

is so helpful...
and he really is
watering the garden, unloading the car, laying the table...
he has such a helpful nature...

how does our garden grow

well, it has been ravaged by an armadillo
RAVAGED
mike has been out with his rifle a few times and i think must have put an end to old guy bc the rooting holes have become much less frequent and deep...
but he destroyed so much when it was really young so it looks a little sparse...
here we have peas, potatoes, turnips and jack watering the onions and garlic

terrariums

josh's mom and dad gave us giant jars of wheat flour a few years ago...
and when i opened one i was sad to find it was a bit rancid...
so the kids made LOTS of playdough and mud/flour pies until finally they are all cleaned out and ready for another use
we decided to make terrariums...
not at all sure if these will work...
layer of pebbles, some activated charcoal (to absorb smell), dirt and then plants that like moist conditions
we made 7 in all...
tonight i think i'll paint the tops and see if i can sell any at the garden center
i suppose i should make sure they'd grow alright

it was an interesting lesson in the water cycle for the kids though bc it is almost totally self contained...
the water condensed onto the sides of the jar and then falls back into the earth only to evaporate, condense and "rain" again..

the "nursery"

so you know if peter pan, all the kids stay in the nursery...
and wendy is told that she is now no longer a child and has to move out of the nursery
and how tragic this is to her and her siblings, peter pan and nanna the dog =)
i just love the idea...
all these nooks and crannies in one room where the kids play and sleep...and sword fight and tell stories...

this is the largest room in our house...and it really is big for any sort of room,,,living room, master bedroom...
and when grace suggested putting the kids in here instead of them both in a smaller room, i thought it was brilliant!!!

jack has the left side and esme the right..o wait, that's backwards...
and a tent has the middle
each has a closet and then one big table for all their creations and collections...
there are 2 doors in and out of their rooms...one that leads right to our room...so we all like that

wildlife

right now i am sitting by an open window listening to spring peepers...
peeping their hearts out...
it is so lovely
josh found a painted turtle who was as fiesty as esme =) the kids loved checking it out...
and then this bird...can you even see it? i cropped down a very far away photo...
but maybe an egret?
there is something about being here that feels very okefenokee
even though i have never been there and i really hope we don't have that many alligators
(though i have heard there are definitely alligators in columbus somewheres)
a cool breeze blows tonight...i think we are in store for a storm...sounds just right to me =)
